Disable 'Sync' in SharePoint Document Libraries

Microsoft SharePoint files are usually available to sync to a folder on your computer. In some cases, you may want to prevent people from using a sync app with a site or library.

To prevent the syncing all document libraries within a site:

  1. On the site, click Settings > Site Settings.

  2. Under Search, click Search and offline availability.

  3. In the Offline Client Availability section, select No.

To allow people to sync files again, set the Offline Client Availability option to Yes.


To prevent syncing of a specific document library:

  1. On the library, click Library Settings > More library settings > Advanced Settings.

  2. In the Offline and sync section, select No on the Allow people to sync this document library to their computers with Microsoft OneDrive and access it offline?

To allow people to sync files again, set the Allow people to sync this document library to their computers with Microsoft OneDrive and access it offline? option to Yes.

To prevent accessing a specific document library in the browser without an internet connection:

  1. On the library, click Library Settings > More library settings > Advanced Settings.

  2. In the Offline and sync section, select No on the Allow people to access this document library in the browser without an internet connection?
